Idling
In this scenario the turbine is non-operational. The blades are pitched to feather and the turbine generator disconnected. However the drivetrain brake is not applied so the rotor may spin depending on the aerodynamic loads.
In this scenario the aerodynamic induction calculation is typically disabled. However, the dynamic stall model is still active to capture the load variation due to changes in the angle of attack due to turbulent inflow and blade motion.
For simulations of an idling rotor, click the Idling
button on the Control Systems
screen and specify the fixed pitch or aileron angle
to be used while idling. Click Enable external controller
if any user-defined control logic is to be used.
