Adding Inverter Blocks to a Layout Region

Once you have defined one or more inverter blocks in the Design components -> Inverter blocks task you can add instances of them in a layout region.

Click on the 'Add inverter block' button in the map toolbar (highlighted in red below):

Often developers will fill a layout region only with inverter blocks. But you may, if you wish, combine inverter blocks and individual racks/trackers in the same layout region.

    Adding individual inverter blocks

Select the 'Add individual inverter block' option to add individual inverter blocks. Select the inverter block type to add and the transformer to add its central inverter to (add a new transformer if needs be).

Then just left-click the mouse in a layout region. A blue rectangle representing the inverter block will appear - drag it to the desired location and release the mouse button:

If the rectangle being dragged shows a red outline, it means it is an invalid position (usually over the layout region's edge or intersecting with an exclusion region or other inverter block).

    Snapping of inverter blocks

The inverter blocks will snap to the row positions (the dotted lines) to help align with any individual racks or trackers, and to other inverter blocks.

Inverter blocks will also snap to the ends of other inverter blocks (when it does this the outline will turn white) to help you line up inverter blocks with others.

    Auto-fill with inverter blocks

Select the 'Auto-fill with inverter blocks' option if you wish to fill a large layout region with multiple inverter blocks, all in a regular grid.

Select the inverter block type and transformer to add to, then:

    1. Left-click in the layout region (on the background - not on an existing inverter block).

    2. Keep the mouse button pressed and move the mouse. The grid will move with the mouse cursor - filling the layout region as best it can, dynamically removing any inverter blocks that would be invalid (if they overlap with the layout region edge or an exclusion region).

    3. Release the left mouse button when you are happy with the grid shown (or press the Escape keyboard key to cancel).

Changing the map to 3D mode will show the actual racks or trackers within the inverter blocks:
