Wind Farms
Wind farms provide the ability to apply specific settings to a group of turbines. Add wind farms to cover any groups of neighbour turbines.
Wind farm property | Impact |
---|---|
Name | Used to identify the wind farm in reporting, must be unique |
Owner | Meta data for information only |
Notes | Meta data for information only |
Is Neighbour | This setting allows us to determine the wake loss due to neighbouring wind farms. Furthermore, neighbour turbine results are not reported or included in the total energy yield for the project and they are excluded from flow and performance matrix outputs to reduce data volumes. Finally, turbines in neighbour wind farms are locked during layout optimisations. |
Exclude from calculation | If checked, turbines within the wind farm are not considered in wind flow, energy, or net energy calculations. |
Include in blockage calculation | Configurable from the Energy > Turbine interaction settings task. |
Is Locked | If checked, you can't move the turbines on the map by clicking and dragging and the turbines in the locked farm will not be moved in layout optimisations. |
Tip
We recommend you use scenarios, rather than excluded turbines, to model alternative wind farm designs. Watch our site setup video for an overview of how you can define a layout and utilise scenarios.
Importing wind farms from another workbook
Using the wind farm import tool you can now import wind farms into the currently active scenario from another workbook. This can be useful if you have previously analysed a neighbouring wind farm and wish to reuse the data.
The workbook from which you wish to import wind farms must have been saved in the same version of WindFarmer: Analyst as the current workbook.
First select the scenario you want to import from the donor workbook then select one or more wind farms to import. Make the selections by clicking the box on the left of the table. You see the row highlights to show selection.
Click OK and wait a couple of minutes.
Note
Unlike projects in WindFarmer 5.3 and earlier versions of WindFarmer, wind farms do not "own" measurement sites, wind flow data or turbine types. You can easily move turbines between wind farms.
